Patch Notes [2023.2] - Farewell to some teams

Moving teams

In order to refine Dev’s purpose and to put teams where they’d be best suited, we have decided to move some teams to CSESoc Main:

Education

This supersedes Education Come With Us.

We want to move Education back into CSESoc as its own team. In 2022, the exec decided to move Education into Development because of a shared technical focus and the fact that Education would benefit a lot from technically-skilled volunteers in Development who could help and give workshops.

However, in 2023, Education has functioned as its own “entity” within Dev, without much assistance from the developer community - the subcommittee were able to do the majority of workshops themselves, and were in fact asked to perform workshops internally for Dev as part of the Training Program.

Furthermore, it would serve Education better to have a wider reach by being part of CSESoc, which is ultimately why we want to move it back.

Discord Bot + Website

We want to move Discord Bot and Website back into CSESoc and combine it with the current Online team to form a new IT team. This new team’s goal would be to maintain tools internal to CSESoc, and to help maintain CSESoc’s online presence.

These two projects, in particular, benefit from remaining with CSESoc as Dev becomes its own society.

  • The CSESoc website is the main access point for people interested in what CSESoc does, which therefore means it needs to be in constant communication with the CSESoc exec and team to make sure the website reflects the society as a whole.

  • The Discord bot serves the CSESoc Discord server, which also means it needs to be in communication with others from CSESoc whenever a new feature is requested.

In both cases, the main customer for both projects is CSESoc itself.

The CMS (which is currently part of the Website team) will be remaining in Dev, as it is an entirely separate project and fairly technically complex.
